Kitchen Needfuls

These are some of my favorite kitchen collectibles.  The top two pictures are kitchen grinders like the one my mother had when I was a child.  I remember she would buy a partial roll of bologna and cut it in chunks and grind it in the food grinder.  She would then grind some of her homemade sweet pickles and add some mayonnaise.  This was our "poor man's ham salad".  I remember it tasted good to me.  She also used the grinder to grind nuts for her Christmas baking.  I have an old grinder in my collection and I think fondly of my mother whenever I look at it.  The next couple of pictures are of an Old Kentucky Home kitchen scale.  It is missing the hand but I think it is a great primitive accent in a kitchen.  I bought it at a little shop called "The Briar Patch".  It has the perfect "grungy" look.  The next two pictures are of "Shoo Fly Screens".  A well stocked primitive kitchen always had several of these handy.  They were useful to keep the flys and gnats off of food.  They are wonderful display pieces in your primitive kitchen or pantry and they are even still very useful for your picnics.  The next picture is a wonderful lunch pail.  I love the color and texture of this piece.  The last picture is a handmade salt box with leather hinges.  It is a very authentic reproduction.  All of these items and many more will be available for sale in the Persnickety Primitives cabin.

The Persnickety Primitives Cabin is coming along very well and we are on target for our opening day of May 5.  We have a huge inventory of unique items.  Watch this blog.  I will be featuring pictures as soon as everything is finished.  Thanks so much for visiting!
